Grains and Oilseeds Production
"NIBULON Ltd." is one of the largest national producers and exporters of agricultural products (wheat, barley, corn, rye, sunflower seeds, etc.). With the development, the Company has gradually expanded the geography and volume of its production activities. Diversification of production activities by climatic zones allows reducing the natural risks related to losses in crops because of detrimental weather conditions in various regions of Ukraine, as well as providing for annual high crops of grains and oilseeds. Using advanced agricultural technologies and facilities, "Nibulon Ltd." constantly ensures observance of the complex technology in agricultural production on the Company`s own and leased lands, and provides tillage and harvesting services to other farms. The Company successfully co-operates with the world-known American, German, Hungarian and other producers of agricultural products, machinery, and herbicides. In 2007, the total harvest of grains in branches of "Nibulon Ltd." exceeded 123 thousand tons. In order to provide for high quality of grain, high yield and maintaining soil fertility, the Company applies modern complex mineral fertilizers produced in Ukraine and Russia, uses the best seeds and herbicides from local and foreign producers. The quality of the grown produce conforms to the strongest requirements of both Ukrainian and foreign consumers. It is well-known that the quality of flour and bread depends on the quality of grain in the field. The problem of increasing and stabilization of high-quality wheat production remains important for Ukraine. The specialists of the Company believe that lacks of quality of wheat grown by many farms strictly depend on high share of mass-reproduction seeds they use for sowing. This approach does not allow them realizing the genetic potential of agricultural species. During recent years, many new high-yield sorts of winter wheat accommodated to drought-ridden climatic conditions of Eastern and Steppe zones of Ukraine were developed and recommended for usage in agricultural production. "Nibulon Ltd." grows mostly these intensive high-productive sorts of new generation developed by the Selection-Genetics Institute: "Odesskaya 267", "Selyanka", "Povaga", "Albatros Odesskiy", "Donetskaya 46", "Mironovskaya 65", "Perlyna Lisostepu", and some others, that require optimization of all agrotechnical factors of growing for complete realization of their grain productivity. First of all, this relates to the issues of mineral, especially nitrogen, fertilization. In "Nibulon Ltd." branches, during the vegetation period, no less than two basic nitrogen fertilizations are applied with dosage N60-80 - into frozen-slushy ground and by Buznitskiy method. These fertilizations are "productive" for increasing of the grains yield. In order to improve quality of grains in the phase of earring, one nitrogen topdressing is applied with dosage N30-40 (based on the results of plant diagnostics). Farther nitrogen topdressings are combined with chemical treatment of the sowings against corn-bug and blights that may shorten the vegetation period of the flag-leaves of the crops. One of the most important factors of increasing yields and quality of grains is differentiated application of the terms of sowing and of seeding rates, as well as wide application of starting phosphoric fertilizers. Phosphoric fertilizers are intensively used with sowing of winter grains, which helps them to overwinter, intensifies vegetation and improves the quality of products. The degree of concentration of grains per the cultivated area is very important for collecting stable grain harvests. The maximum yields are reached when the share of plantings of grains in the general structure of tilled soil is kept within 50-55%. The agro-production service of the Company strictly adheres to this principle in its work; correct, scientifically justified crop rotation is one of the most important factors that ensure stable quality of grain. Along with sort-selection approach to grain quality improvement, application of mineral fertilizers, and scientifically justified crop rotations, "Nibulon Ltd." develops also other ways to solve this task - for instance, development and implementation of agrotechnical methods of managing high-quality grain formation: terms and methods of harvesting, reliable assessment of quality and post-harvesting treatment of grain, formation of homogeneous (by quality) consignments at thrashing-floors, purposive preparation of grain consignments at elevators and warehouses, and processing technologies. Harvesting is completed within the shortest terms and with minimum loss. At the locations of initial accumulation of the harvest, commodity consignments of grains are formed based on quality measures and economic destination thereof.
