NIBULON has been supporting the Ukrainian Maritime Prose Contest named after Lysianskyi MATHELOT for the second year in a row, and we are proud to be part of this important cultural initiative. Supporting projects like these is an inseparable part of our company’s goal to maintain the traditions of Ukrainian shipbuilding and popularizing maritime heritage through literature and cultural initiatives. Shipbuilding is more than just an industry; it is a vital part of our history, culture, and identity. This is why NIBULON is actively involved in initiatives that promote maritime themes in the arts and help shape national awareness.
The MATHELOT contest has become a significant cultural phenomenon, uniting talented marine writers, devoted enthusiasts of maritime themes, and those who believe in the power of literature. Each year, it gathers participants from across the country – individuals who, through their works, seek to explore new depths in understanding the human soul. This year, one of the jurors was Bohdan Muzyka, the director of the NIBULON Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Yard, which emphasizes the company’s deep connection to the maritime sector on both a practical and cultural level. The award ceremony for the winners took place on February 22nd at the Kyiv Institute of Water Transport named after Hetman Petro Konashevych-Sahaydachniy.
This year’s theme, «The Ukrainian Maritime Corridor, » has become incredibly important and relevant, as it reflects the current challenges and realities. The motto of the contest is the words of Oleksiy Vadaturskyy, NIBULON’s founder, and the man who revived shipping on the Southern Bug, Dnieper, and Danube rivers – #DON’T GIVE UP. This powerful message inspires not only the contest participants but also everyone involved in the maritime industry.
Among the more than 80 works submitted to the contest, 26 finalists were selected, whose pieces will be published in the Maritime Anthology 2024-2025. The anthology will serve as a unique reflection of diverse stories about the sea and the people whose lives are closely intertwined with the water, the struggles they endure, and the resilient spirit that allows them to stand strong in the face of adversity.
The decision-making process for this year’s winners was extremely tough, as the jury reviewed works by many gifted authors. Each author offered a unique take on maritime themes, but the winners demonstrated the highest level of literary mastery and a deep connection to the contest’s theme.
