The agricultural production department of NIBULON has officially started the spring planting season. This year, spring crops will be sown on an area of 36,000 hectares, which is comparable to last year’s 37,000 hectares.
As in the previous season, corn will remain the flagship crop for NIBULON in 2025. Additionally, we are doubling the area for soybeans while reducing sunflower planting by half. This decision is based on expected grain market prices and the goal of achieving better financial results. Seed usage is being optimized, with sowing rates set at: corn: 55-70 thousand seeds/ha, soybeans: 350–500 thousand seeds/ha, sunflower: 45 thousand seeds/ha (Mykolaiv region). 800 tons of self-produced soybean seeds have been prepared for planting.
Sunflower planting in the Mykolaiv cluster began earlier than planned due to rising temperatures and soil moisture shortages. In Cherkasy and Podillia, corn sowing is scheduled to start after April 12, aiming for completion by mid-May, depending on favorable weather conditions. NIBULON has the technical capability to sow 2,000 to 2,500 hectares per productive day.
In response to worries regarding possible yield decreases, Oleg Veselov, NIBULON’s Director of Agricultural Production, noted that soil moisture in the company’s operational areas is presently insufficient. Nevertheless, there is optimism for rainfall in April and May, which could bolster anticipated total spring crop yields: corn at 180,000 tons, soybeans at 25,000 tons, and sunflowers at 70,000 tons.
Notably, winter crops in the Mykolaiv region are currently in good to satisfactory condition.
We recently reported on the start of spring fieldwork and our plans for the season.
