One should appreciate efforts of “NIBULON” company; due to its massive shipments of corn to Iran, this country became the largest buyer of Ukrainian corn. Practically all top positions in rating of leading exporters of corn in 2004/05 MY are held by companies that in fact are the “daughters” or partners of foreign companies. I.e. one can say with 100% confidence that export of corn has been monopolized by leading international grain traders. This fact has both negative and positive sides. Among the negative sides, one can name some imposed settlement of prices, coordinated actions in ports, exclusion of Ukrainian traders from the market. On the other hand, it is worth recalling that international companies have well-established relationships in most of the international markets, and it is easier for them to track the way for Ukrainian corn to the foreign market. Thus, it is even more favorable for domestic producers and traders to sell some portion of corn in port or elevator, than to spend their funds for delivery, participation in tenders etc. (which is actually not yet available way for purely Ukrainian grain traders).According to the results of 2004/05 MY, the company “NIBULON” (Nikolaev) became the leading Ukrainian exporter of corn (one year ago it held 11th position in our rating). The enterprise extended the geography of its export by two times – to eight states. The most considerable shipments were made into Spain, Iran, and Israel. The main reason for such a serious success was putting into operation own port transshipment terminal.
