Ukraine is renewing export deliveries of corn to African market after long break. The first consignment of grains was shipped in November 2005 to Egypt from the transshipment terminal of “Nibulon Ltd.” As experts predict, Egypt will import about 5-3 MMT of corn this year. Export potential of Ukraine is 1.5 MMT of this crop.
Egypt remains the most prospective market for Ukrainian corn. Thus, “NIBULON” has to compete with American companies that are, in fact, monopolists in this region. However, in the conditions of hard competition, Ukrainian agricultural producers have a chance to make profitable contracts.
During recent years, the quality of corn exported from Ukraine has been unsatisfactory. That was the reason for the loss of demand for Ukrainian corn and of confidence to Ukrainian suppliers for long period. This year’s first export consignment of “Nibulon Ltd.” meets the requirements of international quality standards.
“Nibulon Ltd.” General director Olexiy Vadaturskyy believes that for Ukraine, as a grain country, it is inadmissible to loose world corn markets. In his opinion, the problem is in failure to maintain the technologies of growing, harvesting, and storage of grains. It is necessary to modernize infrastructure of ports in order to keep quality of grains at storage and shipment. So far, this task was accomplished only at Nikolaev terminal of “Nibulon Ltd.”, the most advanced in Ukraine, where the aforementioned problems are solved in complex, and where an efficient model of interaction “cornfield – port” was created. Thus, the number of national agricultural producers, which collaborate with “Nibulon Ltd.”, increases year by year. And the main thing is that agricultural producers get an opportunity to receive high and fair price for their produce.
