2020/21 MY Results: NIBULON Expands the Geographic Range of Its Exports

In its almost 30 years of activity, NIBULON has created a unique grain infrastructure which has no analogues in Ukraine. It is a well-developed network of automated transshipment terminals and elevator complexes where grain is stored and brought to basic standards using high-quality equipment from the world’s leading suppliers. The company can store 2.25 million tons of agricultural commodities simultaneously, which is the largest storage capacity in the country. NIBULON has its own high-precision laboratories, fleet, high-capacity railway and road transport. The elements of the entire system are coordinated by NIBULON’s professional team, thereby enabling the company to meet the strictest requirements of its partners and making NIBULON, together with Ukraine, world-renowned suppliers of high-quality grain. The last year’s export figures were about 4.6 million tons of grain and oilseeds. The highest results in the export structure are as follows: wheat – 1.96 million tons, corn – 1.65 million tons, and barley – 539 thousand tons.Due to the successful efforts of the trading department, Bulgaria appeared on NIBULON’s export map. The company shipped sunflower seeds to this country for the first time in its history. NIBULON shipped high-quality wheat to Saudi Arabia, which is known as the main barley market. NIBULON started negotiations to ship rapeseed to Great Britain, after having exported corn to this country in 2014. Please note that NIBULON renewed its cooperation with Mauritania, Vietnam, Pakistan, Tanzania and Burundi after a long-term pause. Wheat. In 2020/21 MY, Indonesia and Egypt were the key markets for Ukrainian wheat, importing about 15.65% and 14.75% respectively. These two destination countries also took first places in the company’s wheat export structure with 27% share for Indonesia and 15% for Egypt. NIBULON shipped about 12% of the total wheat exports from Ukraine, and in particular the company’s share in wheat exports comprises 20% for Indonesia and 12% for Egypt. Concerning the forecasts for the current marketing year, NIBULON’s specialists mention that high protein wheat is in great demand in the Middle East countries and Western Africa. The forecasts of high-quality global wheat production in the northern hemisphere have been considerably reduced this season, caused by unfavourable weather conditions. Considering that NIBULON produces this product, the company can take this opportunity to increase exports to countries, such as Jordan, Yemen, Oman, Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi. The company expects wheat to be in great demand in Nigeria. Standardized products are in great demand, and the company plans to increase sales volumes in Indonesia, which is the main consumer of Ukrainian food wheat. The company made a number of direct shipments to final Indonesian consumers last season. This season NIBULON plans to work in this direction. Corn. Southeast Asia, the population of which is constantly growing and the economy is developing, remains the main vector to develop the sales market and to increase corn export volumes. Last marketing year, 8.4 million tons of corn were shipped to China from Ukraine, which exceeds the previous season’s level by 345%. By the way, China’s share in NIBULON’s export structure comprised 65%, which is by 30% more than previous year. This testifies NIBULON’s flexibility and an ability to quickly adapt to market conditions, as product quality represents NIBULON’s considerable competitive advantage. In addition to China, Ukrainian wheat is in high demand in Vietnam and Korea, to which the amount delivered has considerably increased. According to Dmytro Furda, a senior trader, EU countries, Middle East and North Africa will continue to form a considerable share of the demand for Ukrainian corn, considering that corn production has been reduced in Brazil this year caused by unfavourable weather conditions. In addition, Ukraine and the USA can obtain a share of the demand for corn supplied by Brazil in the Mediterranean region. One cannot exclude the possibility of exporting corn to Brazil, which faces an internal shortage of this raw material to satisfy its processing needs. NIBULON studies the possibility to sign such contracts. Barley. Due to China’s considerable demand for fodder grain, about 70% of domestic barley was exported to this country. In the 2020/21 marketing year, the company shipped 85% of its annual program to China. In 2020/21 MY, NIBULON’s share in barley exports is 13%. According to Oleksandr Voloshyn, a trader for barley and sorghum, if China’s demand in 2021/22 MY remains at the previous year’s level, the share of this country in NIBULON’s annual program of barley exports will prevail. Considering that this crop has achieved a record yield this year, the company plans to significantly increase last year’s result in barley exports. Rapeseed. In the current season, NIBULON’s specialists expect high demand for rapeseed, caused by the reduction of global production of this crop. The situation in Canada, where production comprises 17-18 million tons, influences demand the most. Thus, the EU’s demand for Ukrainian rapeseed will be steadier than previous years, but it is not excluded that even Canada will have to import rapeseed, though it used to be an exporter. Soybean. In 2020/21 MY, NIBULON renewed soybean exports to Egypt, Turkey, and France after a two-year pause caused by export tax changes, having shipped 30 thousand tons to these countries. The company plans to increase the volumes of soybean purchase and exports in the current season. Sunflower. In 2020/21 MY, about 190 thousand tons of sunflower were shipped for export from Ukraine, which represents one of the highest results achieved in recent years. NIBULON’s share comprised 15,8% of the total sunflower exports from Ukraine. All products were exported to Bulgaria where bad harvest led to high demand for Ukrainian products. The last time that the company exported sunflower seeds to this country was in 2016/17 MY.Sorghum. Considering that the sowing areas were small and a sorghum yield was low in 2020, the crop exports were significantly reduced as opposed to previous years. The company could ship 11 thousand tons of sorghum to Israel for the first time since 2015. The company’s share comprised 19% in the total sorghum exports of the country in 2020/21 MY.NIBULON constantly develops, improves, increases its own capacities and builds new vessels. Having put the NIBULON MAX 140-m self-propelled floating vessel into operation, the company has considerably strengthened its position. The vessel improves the entire fleet operation and achieves high volumes of agricultural commodity shipment. The company can transship up to 6 million tons in the outer roads, thereby increasing the capacity of the transshipment terminal in Mykolaiv. These are strong prerequisites for the company’s further development and export geography expansion. The company will achieve new goals, improving Ukraine’s agricultural commodity competitiveness.
