NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard arranged an excursion for the guests from the Ukrainian Leadership Academy (Poltava department), who came from different parts of our country. The participants were really impressed by the Ukrainian shipbuilding, as they visited the shipbuilding yard for the first time. Denys Semenov-Orlianskyi, a head of the design and engineering department at NIBULON’s shipyard, held an excursion for the students. The students observed the vessel’s construction processes. They familiarized themselves with all the shipbuilding production processes. The students inspected a metal cleaning and priming area with Rösler preservation line where the specialists clean and paint metal sheets. The metal sheets are then placed to a metal processing workshop where the shipbuilders cut metal and produce various parts, using the best equipment from the world leading manufacturers, such as a SUPRAREX HD portal plasma cutting machine (Sweden), a SBP 275 shipbuilding press (the Netherlands), an SBK 275 frame bending machine (the Netherlands), and others. “I have already visited plants, but I have never been at the shipyard before. I am impressed by its operation. I could not even imagine how many processes are carried out with a metal sheet to build a vessel. The very first stage, when these metal sheets are processed, is the most exciting”, shares Oleh from Lviv region. Then the students attended an assembly section workshop to inspect the assembly of sections required for the orders. The guests had an opportunity to observe the vessel’s assembly at the building berth. The shipyard is currently working on five orders. The students observed the launching and lifting gear (a slipway) enabling the shipyard to transport vessels from onshore to water and vice versa. Due to the large-scale reconstruction, the shipyard can launch and lift vessels of 140 m length, up to 28 m breadth, and of up to 2,500 tons weight.“I have known almost nothing about the shipbuilding process until now. This excursion is a good opportunity for me to gain shipbuilding knowledge as well as to observe vessels, various parts, and sections. I was interested in launching and lifting vessels, as I have had no idea of it. This is really cool”, tells Kateryna from Kyiv. “I have had many impressions today. All the processes are modernized at the shipyard, and all the workshops are new. The shipyard uses the up-to-date equipment. The stereotype that the Ukrainian shipbuilding declined has been destroyed. In reality, the arrangement of buildings is well thought out here. There is a well-defined structure. The shipyard properly arranges all the processes. There seems to be a mathematical harmony in everything”, summarizes Oleksandr from Kharkiv.
