Almost every month NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard launches a new vessel. At the same time, the company reconstructs and modernizes the existing facilities. Upon its completion, the shipbuilding and repair yard will be the most modern plant in Ukraine and, undoubtedly, one of the best plants in Europe.
The company’s activity in the shipbuilding industry demonstrates to all of Ukraine that the industry has received a new chance for revival. In 2017, NIBULON decided to draw attention of the authorities and public to the outstanding history and prospects for the domestic shipbuilding development. During the year, NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard constructed and launched three 121M project tugs. They were named after such famous Mykolaiv shipbuilders as Yurii Makarov, Anatolii Hankevych, and Nodari Chanturiia.
The very same day the year before, on April 6, 2017, the shipbuilders launched Yurii Makarov tug, the first 121M project vessel. There were at the launching ceremony people who knew Yurii Makarov and who worked with him glorifying Mykolaiv and Ukraine.
NIBULON’s General Director Oleksiy Vadaturskyy explained that the decision to name NIBULON’s newly built vessel in honour of Yurii Makarov, a well-known shipbuilder, a long-time director of the large shipbuilding plant, was connected with a desire to right a wrong. Previously, the ship named in his honour was launched, but it was renamed in offshore jurisdiction. But Oleksiy Vadaturskyy decided that that the vessel named after a famous Mykolaiv shipbuilder must operate in Ukraine, and Mykolaiv residents have not only the memory of the countryman, but also confidence in the prospects of shipbuilding; so that people do not look for work abroad, and find work in their native city, so that students know that profession of a shipbuilder is the most promising profession in Mykolaiv.
The vessel built at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard has efficiently operated for a year. It operates for the benefit of our country under the Ukrainian flag, on Ukrainian rivers, with a Ukrainian team, as a symbol of the future of national shipbuilding.
During this time, Yurii Makarov performed 52 cargo trips, having transported more than 173.3 thousand tons of cargoes and having passed 24,850 km of Ukrainian waterways. The tug has been to many cities, towns and villages of Ukraine, such as Nova Odesa, Voznesensk, Ochakiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Hola Prystan, Kozatske, Kamianka-Dniprovska, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, and Vitove village. It has also participated in loading of 12 foreign vessels.
Yurii Makarov along with Anatolii Hankevych and Nodari Chanturiia tugs symbolized a new era of Ukrainian shipbuilding. Each new vessel is a labour victory of NIBULON and a new impetus for the development of the Ukrainian economy. Taking into account the further and continuous development of the cargo fleet, in the next few years NIBULON will be capable of transporting up to 4 million tons of cargoes per year along the waterways of Ukraine.
