The staff of the laboratory is small. It consists of 4 chemical research engineers and head of the laboratory. The specialists of the laboratory have very responsible tasks. They are engaged in monitoring the environment within the company’s activities and controlling products in terms of consumption safety. They research underground, fresh, sewage and surface water, atmospheric air and soils; test oil products for compliance with the standards established. The laboratory is certified by Mykolaiv Scientific and Production Center of Standardization, Metrology and Certification SE.
While creating infrastructure and building new facilities, NIBULON uses modern technologies to protect the environment as well as atmospheric air”, said Liudmyla Postoronko, head of chemical-technological laboratory. “In particular, it uses closed technology to transport grain cargoes, aspiration systems of polluted air, modern dust-trapping equipment, landscaping. The company aims to improve cargo transportation by waterways, the most eco-friendly waterways”.
Control is important when observing such an environmentally conscious policy. Itis performed by chemical-technological laboratory. It controls compliance with the requirements for certification and operation of gas-cleaning units, dust and air mixture parameters, total, dynamic and statistical pressure, speed and air flow. All NIBULON’s newly built facilities are positively evaluated by the state ecological expertise. The impact on the environment is considered to be environmentally acceptable.
Soil research according to fertility indices is another area NIBULON’s chemical-technological laboratory is engaged in. Constant monitoring of the cultivated areas enables the company to renew and to balance nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content in soil. NIBULON’s production department receives measurement results, and its specialists calculate the required number of mineral fertilizers to be purchased.
Having a developed network of facilities in many regions of Ukraine NIBULON treats rain wastewater and domestic water. Thus, the chemical-technological laboratory constantly controls the chemical composition of this water, efficiency of its treatment at treatment facilities.
“Particular attention should be paid to the drinking water quality on board of NIBULON’s vessels in order to guarantee health safety of the shipping company’s employees”, said Liudmyla Postoronko. “The reliability principle is applied even when controlling water quality on vessels. For example, the specialists of the chemical-technical laboratory prepare disinfectant solutions and control tank readiness when tugs are put into operation”.
The chemical-technological laboratory collaborates with NIBULON’s shipping company in order to research oil products (motor oil, diesel fuel). There is a clear order: specialists of the shipping company send samples of motor oil from tugs to the laboratory every 1,000 operating hours; in accordance with the received data, they make a decision to replace it. It is very important to have a timely analysis of the operating oil to prevent problems in the course of engine operation (coagulation, sedimentation, clogging of oil lines and filters) which can negatively affect the environment. And the employees of the laboratory effectively control the process.
NIBULON pays much attention to the sausage product quality produced by the meat processing workshop of “Bystryts’ka” branch (Zhytomyr regon) according to the standards approved. In October 2014, the laboratory completed the certification of sausage products for compliance with normative requirements. Since then, the laboratory has controlled sausage product quality to meet DSTU requirements.
All employees of the laboratory conscientiously fulfill their duties, constantly improve their professional level because responsible attitude to the environment, awareness of the need to produce only high-quality products have become the norm for NIBULON.
At present NIBULON’s chemical-technological laboratory offers monitoring services to other companies and organizations. The company plans to develop chemical-technological researches.
