Oleksiy Vadaturskyy Shared the Secrets of His Success with the Students of the Ukrainian Leadership Academy

Future leaders have long wanted to meet with a prominent man who has played a key role in the development of the domestic agrarian sector and destiny of the whole country. As the Academy students admitted, NIBULON’s General Director has managed to inspire them for the future achievements. Oleksiy Vadaturskyy shared his principles to live by using bright life examples. These principles have helped him to succeed in life.
1. Trust is the main treasure in life and in business. Trust of partners is the source of your future success. In almost 27 years of our activities our company has an excellent credit history that is based on trust. Be honest. I appreciate honest people, when they are honest with me, the environment, and society. This is a very important strain I was brought up with in my childhood. And I’ve carried it through all my life. I started my business in 90’s. Those were turbulent years, when the laws didn’t work, and heavy-handed methods were used.  80 % of economy was hidden. But at that time I was an experienced person, I was able to do a lot of things, I knew a lot, I saw a lot; I had experience, respect, and confidence that I could achieve success, to set up a business. That is why I immediately decided that my business would develop according to the following principles: to be honest with partners, not to work in the shadow economy, when you think that you earn money, but in fact, you lose.  As a result, the company has the good business standing in Europe and throughout the world. NIBULON is an example of honest, transparent and socially responsible business.
2. Do not feel sorry for yourself when it’s difficult. I grew up in a village in an average family. My parents worked very hard. My father and mother have taught me to work since childhood. This hardening helped me a lot in the future. During my student years I also worked a lot, because I couldn’t provide for myself only with the help of scholarship. I didn’t ask my parents for help; therefore, I had to look for a part-time job from the first year. I worked as a loader at the airport and during my summer holidays I worked in student construction brigades. Since the third year of my studying I combined study with work as a laboratory assistant in the research sector of the Automation and Instrument Engineering Department of our institute. I assisted future PhDs and Doctors of Science in their research activities, and I also was paid for this. As a result, it turned out that in my student days I earned more than in the first years of my professional career. I could not only provide for myself, but also support my parents.
3. Everything is based on the team. No matter how talented you are, you will not achieve your goal without assistants, without a team. Today our company employs 6,500 people. It is necessary to cluster honest people around yourself, to create honest healthy competition. It is necessary for employees to believe in their manager and his/her ideas.
4. Understand what is most important to you and dedicate your life to this. Don’t compromise your integrity. Do well what you have started to do and work hard. And do it no thanks to something. Then you will succeed.
5. Choose your path and move forward. If you choose your path, you must succeed, struggle and go ahead; you shouldn’t hope that someone is waiting for you there and count on a quick result. You will face problems, obstacles, but achieve your goal. Only then you will be able to respect yourself. Believe in your goals and don’t be afraid of problems and dead-end situations. There are no dead-ends. I always believed that the problem only points to the path. If I hear a clear refusal, if I am told that it’s impossible, I know that it is possible and you only need to find a right decision. Therefore, I always say that our company has had no defeats, but we have had a lot of obstacles we proudly overcame. Here is one example from my life. I work in the agrarian sector and it would seem I should be engaged exclusively in agriculture. I thought so 15 years ago. I even could not imagine that I would own the most successful Ukrainian fleet, shipbuilding yard, which is being reconstructed. Upon the reconstruction, it will be the best shipyard in Europe. I didn’t even have such plans. But the problem with agricultural commodities transportation has changed my life: Ukrzaliznytsia didn’t cope with this; and you know the condition of the Ukrainian roads. At the same time, the world used water transport, because transportation of goods in this way is considered to be the cheapest one in the world, but not in Ukraine. I had an idea to change the country’s logistics system and to build a fleet in Ukraine.  Then the decline of shipbuilding led to the fact that we had no place in Ukraine to build our fleet. And here is a new stage in the development of our company: we made a decision to create our own shipbuilding enterprise. Then there were ideas to acquire our own shipbuilding yard either here or in Europe. And we decided to acquire a Ukrainian shipbuilding yard and make it the best one in Europe. As a result, we have built 67 vessels; last year we transported 2.3 million tons of grain by inland waterways. In the coming years, we plan to transport 4 million tons. That is how it happened: I didn’t plan to be engaged in this industry, but life dictates its rules. In order to be a leader in the grain market, it is necessary to execute international contracts and raise the reliability of the company; and to this end, it is necessary to build a fleet and possess a shipbuilding yard. Therefore, I am deeply convinced that if you want to be successful, you must be successful in all your activities.
6. There are no unimportant things in your life. Everything must be treated critically. A person who chose his/her path cannot have such words as “interesting”, “not interesting”, “I will do this”, “I will not do this”. If you start to work in a certain direction, there cannot be trivialities. The success of any business consists of trivialities. For example, the experience I acquired in construction brigades during my student years allows me to safely construct facilities.
7. Being a leader is the hardest job. You are responsible for the lives of other people who trust you. It is necessary to motivate your team, to group them around your ideas. On the one hand, a manager is free to make decisions. On the other hand, you are answerable to those, who believed you. You depend on the business you have dedicated all your life to. It is impossible to be irresponsible if you organize your business.
Future leaders heard a lot of useful and interesting tips from a successful and experienced person.
“Young people have a good potential. Do not lose it and use it in a serious way. Hardworking people will certainly be successful. You are young and talented people, you have to believe in yourself and you will be successful!”, said Oleksiy Vadaturskyy at the end of the meeting.
The meeting lasted more than three hours. The students did not want to let Oleksiy Vadaturskyy go. They asked him more and more questions about how to set goals and how to achieve them, how to move to success and how to choose what you want to do in life. Undoubtedly, the history of NIBULON inspired future leaders not to be afraid of anything and to work for the benefit of Ukraine.
