Every shipbuilder will tell you that a future specialist must get to know the vessel construction process and its technological peculiarities in practice. Specialists need practice and not only theory.
Unfortunately, Mykolayiv shipbuilding fame is in shadow at present, and shipbuilding traditions are forgotten.
But the students have an opportunity to observe and master shipbuilding peculiarities during their summer practical training in Mykolayiv.
Thus, on July 09, 2015, third-year students from Admiral Makarov National Shipbuilding University (specialty “Ships and Ocean Engineering”) visited NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard.
Vyacheslav Borets, a shipbuilder and former graduate from this university, has familiarized the youth with the production areas at the shipyard, told about its history, first shipbuilding orders (the tugs of the POSS-115 and 121 projects) as well as about reconstruction and modernization of the shipyard.
The students have been informed on the shipyard workload program for 2015-2016. The program includes the construction of three tugs (121 project), six non-self-propelled vessels (NBL-91 project), the С14938 project pontoon to install a grab portable crane, multipurpose sea tugs of 3,500 and 5,000 hp, plus a crew boat.
Anatoliy Farionov, a professor, said, “We have had a wonderful excursion today! We were able to see what can be expected from the Ukrainian shipbuilding sector in future in case of successful development thereof, guided by NIBULON’s experience. It was also useful for the students to become familiar with construction peculiarities, as we have never heard of some nuances before”.
The excursion culmination was a sea trip in the outer roads of Mykolayiv Sea Trade Port, where the students observed huge non-self-propelled vessels with the length of 90 m, modern sea tugs NIBULON (POSS-115 project) and St. Mykolai unique self-propelled floating crane – a pride of NIBULON’s shipping company.
The students Volodymyr Kucherenko and Oleksandr Kichenko noted that it was worth visiting the only one efficient shipbuilding yard in Ukraine. They were particularly impressed by modern equipment on board NIBULON’s vessels (including navigation one) produced by the leading foreign and Ukrainian producers. And Oleksandr has decided to implement his knowledge at NIBULON after graduation.
It is a good opportunity for the students to see the unique modern fleet in operation, to observe the loading of high-capacity marine vessels in the roads.
A Cameroonian student Tienche Gigmini Alan told about his familiarization with the Ukrainian shipbuilding, “I came to Ukraine by a lucky chance. When I decided to devote myself to shipbuilding, I hesitated and could not choose between several countries. Once, while observing Internet websites, I came across photos depicting shipbuilding steel with “Made in Ukraine” label. Thus, I came to Ukraine and went to Mykolayiv upon the recommendations. I have never been sorry about my choice”.
By the way, the guests thanked NIBULON for an opportunity to visit NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard regularly. Practice and not theory is a guarantee of their successful professional fulfillment. And NIBULON’s shipbuilders assist their future colleagues with pleasure.
