People of Lidiyivka village, Domanivka district of Mykolayiv region call on one of the leaders of Ukraine’s agrarian market, agricultural company NIBULON and its General Director, Hero of Ukraine Oleksiy Vadaturskyy to resist provocations of visiting provokers spreading improper information about the company and agitating for termination of NIBULON’s contractual relations with the local authorities. The representatives of the vast majority of people of Lidiyivka village informed about it during the press-conference in Mykolayiv city. According to them, if the company refuses to cultivate about 3 thousand ha in Lidiyivka village and decides to carry the branch to another locality, none of other investors will be able to ensure the existing level of the village development. Such a reaction of Lidiyivka people, including the branch staff, was caused by the actions organized by Semen Lutsenko, their fellow villager, and Victor Gorobchuk, head of the All-Ukrainian Labour Movement “Solidarity”, an unknown organization which is not registered in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. The day before they gave the country people and Domanivka District State Administration a request to dissolve lease agreement with NIBULON, to perform land share, and to create their own agricultural company on the basis of these shares. They blame NIBULON for illegal land receipt of the former collective farm “Lidiyivs’ke” in 1996. It should be noted that at that time the villagers gave up their land rights during the meeting voluntarily. And the repeated inspections of the public prosecution bodies of all levels up to the Attorney General’s Office of Ukraine confirmed legality of land use by the company. Mykola Grubyy, former chairman of the Collective Agricultural Farm “Lidiyivs’ke”, who was one of the initiators to give the collective farm land to NIBULON in 1996 said people had signed statements on land expropriation voluntary, even though the company carried out meetings four times in order to specify whether the villagers thought well over their own decision. As such actions, when Semen Lutsenko brings different unfamiliar public activists to the village, do not take place for the first time in Lidiyivka village, the villagers are afraid that O.Vadatuskyy and NIBULON can refuse to work in the village leaving its villagers without highly-paid workplaces, stable wage, and the social infrastructure will be without financial support. “A small group of people who united with S.Lutsenko claim that NIBULON destroyed the village. But it is not true. Indeed, Lidiyivka village is an example how the master kept and develops it. We see how people live in the neighboring villages. People from the district center come to work in Lidiyivka village. Is it an evidence of devastation?”, says director of Lidiyivka secondary school Liliya Bezina. According to her, in 1996, in the village there was a “small poor school” with 2 teachers and 4 classes. “Children did not eat, cleaners and teachers brought electric water heaters and some cakes to feed children. Now everything has changed. If in 1996 there were 16 children, now there are 62 children at school. We have the highest number of children among other schools in the district. It means the number of inhabitants decreases in other villages and our village works stably”, informed director. L.Bezina also added that NIBULON repaired school accommodations, purchased new furniture, computers, and interactive boards. “Almost every school of the district received interactive boards before the election. People of Lidiyivka village were told they had already had everything. Thanks to NIBULON there is a resource base at school. For a long time the teachers received salary paid by the company. Other schools have one teacher who teaches 5-6 subjects. One can imagine the knowledge children can gain under such conditions. Due to NIBULON’s support, the best specialists in chemistry, physics, art, and music are brought to school. The company ensures feeding, every year the contest winners go to the seaside, the school uniform is sewed. The first formers receive schoolbags with stationery. School heating is also provided by the company”, mentioned director. According to her, the public activists, agitating for termination of relations with NIBULON, do not realize what they can lose making such a step. “Our people did not experience those difficulties other people did all over Ukraine. They think they will receive a million for a yield and will not work for a year. We try to prove that these visiting people care about their personal interests and not about ours. During the meeting of “Solidarity” organization we have recognized people who came with “Cooperation and success” organization two years ago and who appealed to share the land but failed”, stressed L.Bezina. According to the villagers, everything finished trivially: initially, the action organizer demanded USD 150 thousand and then EUR 960 thousand in order to resign his claims. Agronomist Oleksandr Iglavyy was a schoolboy when the villagers decided to give the land for NIBULON’s use. “I was born in the village, studied at school that had two classes. We often walked to school to the neighboring village in all weather conditions because the busses ran from time to time. At present our children go to repaired school. Besides, those who finish school and enter the universities know that they can undergo practical training and then come back and work for the company. And now people come and try to crush and destroy everything. I do not understand them. As a result, our children and their children, their future will suffer”, noted O.Iglavyy. According to Nina Khorsun, milkmaid of the collective farm, NIBULON revived the farm. Till 1996 the daily milk yield did not exceed 100-200 gram. “We have a refrigerator, warm water, the milking process is computerized at the farm. We thank NIBULON for our job and wage”, she mentioned. Mechanic Oleksandr Koshylka, who arrives to Lidiyivka village from Domanivka district center, also does not understand the motives of villagers who are going to refuse to cooperate with NIBULON. “We all operate modern machinery, everybody has a good wage, the best and highly-paid work in the region. I have worked for NIBULON since 2000. In 2002 I left job and wanted to make fast money. Many of us who worked in Domanivka mechanized department left their jobs, knocked about the world, lost their families. And we all came back to work for NIBULON again. We are told, “If you did not work we would go on strike and everything would be great. They asked, “Why do you come to work? We have to work too!” They drink heavily and we perform part of their work. And now they blame us for not having the land”, mentioned mechanic. According to Alina Iglavaya, worker of NIBULON’s branch, the villagers appreciate stable work and wage the most. “We have the land. But it brings profit only once per year. Our share is UAH 2 thousand. Is it money? Here we have a job and a wage. NIBULON pays the state for land lease. And we also receive social assistance at the rate of rental payment provided by NIBULON”, said A.Iglavaya. She also added she has confidence in the future. “I know my child will be educated, and I have money to pay for his further education. What are we going to do if they destroy everything? Who should we believe, “Cooperation and success” or Oleksiy Vadaturskyy who has been working with us for 16 years? People who organize these actions expect to be unpunished.  They organized such actions two years ago – who benefited from it? Nobody. But nobody was punished. These people continue working”, says a resident of Lidiyivka village. Another worker of the branch Galyna Pastuh adds that many activists, protesting against NIBULON’s activity in the village today, have improved their wealth while working for the company. “In 1996 we were undernourished, were ragamuffins. And now people have cars (1 car for each 6 residents), they dressed up a little and the children of those who were undernourished at that time want the land. They have one cow, one or two ducks. They do not need more, they, probably, live better than you do”, G.Pastuh addressed to the journalists. According to her, livestock population at their backyards decreases. “It is indicated that people have wage and they need not keep their personal farm in order to survive”, added she. General Director of NIBULON, Hero of Ukraine Oleksiy Vadaturskyy informed that at present the company does not consider the possibility to dissolve agreement relations with the District State Administration and to reject land lease in Lidiyivka village. “Even though it will be easy for us to replace these 3 thousand ha by the land of any other Ukraine’s region, we will not close this branch for the present. I am responsible for those people who believe me, who work in good face in Lidiyivka village”, noted O.Vadaturskyy. “Certainly, we have to freeze a number of projects today. Particularly, we had a project for construction of new school, gym, new post office, firs-aid station. I will have to remove those workers who do not want to work. I think if they want to quit, we will not keep them. There are many people in other villagers who are ready to work for our company”, added he. NIBULON’s General Director also noted that the villagers should unite with the company in order to overcome any economical difficulties in the future, including issues concerning legislative regulation of the land market. “Today the calls for revolutionary activity are destructive”, noted he. According to O.Vadaturskyy, the story of Lidiyivka village is a unique experience showing that the village can be wealthy even without land share. “Land plots are the state property. People are secured in every way. And it is not necessary to share the land and to tell that you will be rich having your land plot. It is an experience and a model to be spread all over Ukraine”, summarized he.
