Mass media and social networks often spread news about the decline of Ukrainian shipbuilding, announcing that the shipbuilding sector has no future. At the same time, they do not notice improvements – the revival of shipbuilding in Mykolaiv and at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard, Ukraine’s most modern shipyard. For more than 10 years the shipyard has been building various complete vessels using its own designs: from non-self-propelled vessels and tugs to self-propelled floating cranes. The NIBULON MAX 140-m floating vessel is the longest since Ukraine’s independence. Launching 6-10 vessels per year, depending on the complexity of the vessel, the company has built Ukraine’s largest and most modern fleet of 82 vessels and provided workplaces to more than 1,000 shipbuilders, in particular partners. The shipbuilding also promotes the development of other related economy sectors. It is no surprise that NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard is renowned abroad and works with the world’s best shipyards. The shipyard trains personnel, thereby proving its successful vector to develop Ukrainian shipbuilding. In particular, the shipyard has been successfully cooperating with the higher vocational shipbuilding school, assisting to prepare specialists by professions, such as a hull assembler, a gas cutter, and an arc welder of automatic and semiautomatic machines. About 100 pupils from this educational institution undergo paid practical training at the shipyard, in NIBULON’s shipping company, trucks and cars services annually. In September, pupils from the higher vocational shipbuilding school will again undergo practical training at NIBULON.This is the future of Ukrainian shipbuilding. What can be better than using modern equipment and being employed in Ukraine, rather than working abroad? At the beginning of the new academic year, NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard gave Mykolaiv higher vocational shipbuilding school 700 kg of welding electrodes (diameter – 3 mm and 4 mm) produced by the leading domestic producer of welding equipment and materials. The equipment will be used during the production training of electric and gas welders as well as hull assemblers. “NIBULON is a reliable partner that ensures not only practical training, but also a full educational process to practice skills. We are happy to cooperate with the company”, says Volodymyr Humeniuk, a senior foreman at school.Mykolaiv was and will be a shipbuilding city due to this cooperation and the desire of its youth to master shipbuilding skills.
