This is the last vessel of a series of three 121M project vessels; by the way, they were also named in honour of famous shipbuilders of Mykolaiv. In particular, on April 6, 2017, the fist vessel Yurii Makarov was launched in Mykolaiv; on May 24, Anatolii Hankevych tug was launched. Yurii Makarov tug will perform its first cargo trip along the Southern Buh River at the end of this month. The first cargo trip of Anatolii Hankevych is scheduled for July 2017.
The new vessel is named in honour of a famous Mykolaiv shipbuilder who devoted a significant part of his life to Ukrainian shipbuilding. Nodari Chanturiia is a legendary person. He worked at Mykolaiv shipbuilding yard “Okean” for 38 years and headed this plant from 1982 until 1996. Under his leadership, the new technological processes were mastered, and the plant was completely modernized.
People who personally knew Nodari Chanturiia and worked with him glorifying Mykolaiv and Ukraine were invited to deliver a speech at the solemn launching of Nodari Chanturiia vessel.
Hero of Socialist Labour Ivan Vinnyk congratulated NIBULON’s shipbuilders on the next victory. “A gifted engineer and an exceptionally good man”, Ivan Vinnyk described the long-term director of “Okean” shipbuilding yard.
Ihor Ovdiienko, who had devoted almost 40 years of his life to shipbuilding, confirmed these warm words, “Nodari Chanturiia devoted all his life to “Okean” shipyard, its perfection, organization, growth of capacities and orders, and development of the social complex. Nodari Chanturiia is a definitely just name”.
Congratulating the shipbuilders on the holiday, he noted that it was nice to see the shipbuilding yard developing, changing daily for the better, continuously working. “Only a month has passed since the previous vessel was launched, and the new vessel is ready to be launched. Of course, this is an achievement of NIBULON’s team, because everything here is done by you. But such high successes would have been impossible, if the team wasn’t headed by such a prominent person as Oleksiy Vadaturskyy, who takes care of the company development, improvement of labour organization.
Ihor Ovdiienko thanked NIBULON’s General Director Oleksiy Vadaturskyy for the fact that he had named the series of high-capacity tugs after the directors of shipbuilding plants of Mykolaiv without someone’s instructions, initiatives, but solely because of his own initiative, “This tug is perfect, and there is no doubt that it will work both for the benefit of NIBULON’s team and the entire Ukraine”.
“I also want to congratulate your team on the successes you achieve by reviving shipbuilding industry in Mykolaiv”, said Evhenii Kroiter, a former head of the technical department at “Okean” shipbuilding yard; he worked for 20 years under the leadership of Nodari Chanturiia. According to him, Nodari Chanturiia was a unique person and a famous engineer who was always ready to go against the current if success of a case and the team’s fate depended on his decision, “He was a very kind person by his nature, and it was a rare quality for a leader of his rank, especially in shipbuilding. It was an amazing combination of good, sometimes even mild nature, with firmness that helped him to implement the most important decisions”.
Yevhenii Kroiter thanked NIBULON’s management for such a good tradition to name new vessels after prominent Mykoliav shipbuilders, “NIBULON is a unique phenomenon in our city. I hope that this good initiative will have its continuation, as it happens with all good deeds of NIBULON. After all, shipbuilding in Mykolaiv had many big names. I want NIBULON’s vessels named after famous Mykolaiv residents operate on water areas of Ukraine and glorify our city and people”.
At present, tens of employees from “Okean” shipyard work at NIBUON shipbuilding and repair yard. The chief technologist of design and technology department Mykola Rasporov, who worked for 35 years under the leadership of Nodari Chanturiia, is one of them, “He was an energetic and a goal-oriented leader and always achieved the tasks that have been assigned. He was a gifted engineer and a modest decent person. I want to thank Oleksiy Vadaturskyy for not forgetting Nodari Chanturiia, and for the fact that the vessel is named in his honour. We, NIBULON’s shipbuilders, assure you that this tug will bear this proud name proudly”.
The family of the famous Mykolaiv shipbuilder (a son with his wife and grandchildren) also attended the event. In particular, his son Viktor Chanturiia shared his memories of his father and wished further successes to NIBULON,
“I am very pleased to attend such an event as the birth of a vessel, especially if this vessel is named after my father. Honour and responsibility were not empty words for him. Many of those present, who worked with him, know this even better than me. The father left home very early and came back in the evening with a pile of papers. The light at his study was on till 11 p.m. and sometimes even later. He worked, he worked all his life. Being a retired man he could not sit around. Particularly he was worried about shipbuilding in Ukraine; it was in an extremely deplorable state at the time of his retirement. He published articles in newspapers, sent letters to the Verkhovna Rada. He could not understand till the end of his life how shipbuilding could be destroyed for the sake of someone’s self-interest. After all, self-interest has always been in the last place for him, if at all. Ten years have passed since he passed away, and I am very glad that this tug will be named in his honour. On behalf of all relatives I want to thank NIBULON’s management, everyone who took the decision to name it after Nodari Chanturiia and thank shipbuilders who have built it for their work. I want to wish you to keep constructing and turn the former glory of Mykolaiv as the city of shipbuilders. Let this series of tugs named after our glorious shipbuilders become a symbol of honest and unselfish services to the motherland”.
Deputy General Director of Fleet Construction, Fleet Operation and Navigation Safety Andrii Volik noted that everything that had been said that day about Nodari Chanturiia seemed to have been technically embodied in this tug, “This tug is the most high-capacity one in its class and a unique according to its characteristics”. He also greeted the shipbuilders on behalf of General Director Oleksiy Vadaturskyy, who was on business trip at the construction site of NIBULON’s new transshipment terminal in Hola Prystan town.
To the applause of the guests, the vessel’s godmother Inna Kuzmina broke a bottle of champagne against the side of the vessel according to old maritime tradition. This new vessel will operate on the waterways of Ukraine soon; it will revive the fame of Mykolaiv as the city of shipbuilders and a shipbuilding center of Ukraine.
Each new vessel is a labour victory of NIBULON and a new impetus for the Ukrainian economy. Taking into account the further and continuous development of the cargo fleet, NIBULON will be able to transport up to 4 million tons of cargo per year along the waterways of Ukraine.
