On the 20th of October 2010 in Nova Odesa town of Mykolayiv region there was a solemn ceremony of the beginning of construction of a new transshipment terminal on shipment of grain and oilseeds on river transport. A new terminal in Nova Odesa is a very complicated facility in terms of construction. The whole complex will be located at 3-4 meters above the ground because of local soil peculiarities, it will be placed on the so-called “pile field”, which will be the basis for high layer of far-brought soil. The scale of construction is striking: 31 cranes, 30 dumping trucks, 50 trucks are working on the construction site; over 1200 tons of metal structures will be welded during construction, 4,000 piles will be driven, over 327 thousand cubic meters of land solid were brought to raise the ground level. Gezer Anatoliy, installerof the 5th category of “DAEM” company says: “It is not the first year when I work with “NIBULON”. I worked during the construction of elevators of “Smotrych”, “Gradyz’k” branches, now I have come to Nova Odesa. I work here for 24 days. After construction of the elevator I look forward that we will build more terminals in Mykolayiv region, I need work and I’m not ashamed of it. I’m satisfied with working conditions, especially I want to stress on an absolute provision of housing- for us, non-resident builders, it is extremely important. The construction in Nova Odesa is colossalon its scale, especially when we consider the conditions of present times, the crisis, when every undertaking is a rare but pleasant exception. I participated in only one similar construction – when the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Stationwas built, but that is another story (he smiles). Construction of company’s elevators means work places for thousands of people, improving the economic climate of the region. “NIBULON” continues construction of elevator complex, despite all the problems and difficulties. Still we have to fall back on unpleasant for us measures, given the situation on the domestic grain market, export problem: in particular, 1000 of 4000 employees are forced to go on vacation as a result of suspension of productionand grain reception; for the same reason, employees of the transshipment terminal in Mykolayiv were transferred to the construction in Nova Odessa, in order not to lose work and wages. So, a rhetorical question now arises: Whether the newly-built terminal will become an “unnecessary” elevator capacity, given the situation on the grain market? Is there a sense for the company to start construction of the next two planned terminals in Mykolayiv? It concerns other elevators, construction of which is scheduled by the company within the frames of the investment program. It means that thousands of professionals – builders, metallurgists, shipbuilders will not be involved in the revival of navigation along the Dnipro and the South Bug Rivers together with “NIBULON”. The issue remains open… *** We offer you a photo report of the status of construction of the terminal as of the 5th of November 2010.
