NIBULON has completed harvesting of early grain crops having received the record gross yield this season. Above 120 000 tons of grain were taken by linear elevators and transshipment terminals of the company. The given figure is by 25% more than the last year’s index.
In autumn 2012 when the amount of sowing area exceeded previous year’s figures by 6 000 ha, positive yield prospects could be determined. To reap a harvest of 2013 there were sown about 4 000 ha of winter barley, 24 000 ha of winter wheat, and 1 500 ha of winter rape. In autumn crop tending was carried out within optimal agrotechnical terms; thus, most areas were in optimal condition during winter period.
It should be noted that the weather and climatic conditions in the first half of 2013 were favourable not in all regions of winter crop cultivation. This season has been extreme for the braches of Snigurivka, Bashtanka districts of Mykolayiv region, Milovsk and Bilovodsk districts of Lugansk region where there was little rainfall. There were other cataclysms. For example, some branches faced hail that partly damaged and reduced a harvest. But despite this NIBULON’s branches demonstrated high results at the district levels. Location of the company’s production branches in ten regions of Ukraine allowed NIBULON to distribute risks of yield deficiency in case of unfavourable conditions.
Late spring brought its corrections. It was necessary to carry out technological operations within brief period of time: second fertilizing, harrowing of wheat, chemical protection, foliar dressing. There was organized constant shiftwork to perform actions in time.
This year’s harvesting campaign is characterized by its irregularity. Harvesting started two weeks earlier than expected according to the calendar terms (due to accelerated ripening of grain crops caused by high temperature in May and June) and completed at a rapid pace (due to heavy rainfall in July).
Summing up harvesting of early grain crops, it can be noted that gross yield of wheat in 2013 comprises 98.7 thousand tons which is by 18% more than the last year’s figure. The average wheat yield comprises above 42 dt/ha. High results were achieved by the following branches: RE “Lidiyivs’ke” (wheat yield – 58.7 dt/ha on the area of above 1 600 ha), “Suhorabivs’ka” (wheat yield – 50.4 dt/ha on the area of 620 ha). The highest gross yield of wheat was demonstrated by “Chygyryn” branch – 10 593 tons of wheat!
Wheat yield is characterized by its high quality. 95% of grain belongs to high classes. Level of damage done by a corn-bug is minimal for the last years and is 0.1%. This guarantees NIBULON’s product compliance with high requirements of importers.
At the same time the company performed laying in high-quality seed grain (6.5 thousand tons).
Winter rape has demonstrated the record crop yield in the current season. The average rape yield by the company comprises 32.7 dt/ha, and the highest result was achieved by “Mriya” branch – 37.2 dt/ha on the area of above 160 ha. The total gross yield of rape by the company is about 4 500 tons this year.
This year NIBULON has continued to reduce barley cultivation in the structure of crop rotation. Thus, in the current season barley has occupied minimum area for the last years – less than 5 000 ha, and the total gross yield of crop is above 17 000 tons. Barley will be used during production of fodder for the company’s livestock sector.
As of August 12 Ukrainian agrarians harvested 32 mln tons of early grain and leguminous crops on the area of 10.4 thousand ha or 99% of the predicted amount, informed the press-service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to it, the average crop yield by the country comprises 30.8 dt/ha as against 26 dt/ha as of similar date of 2012. As of August 12 there were harvested almost 7.7 mln tons of barley on the area of 3.2 mln ha at a crop yield of 24.2 dt/ha (in 2012 the crop yield comprised 22 dt/ha). Wheat was thrashed on the area of 6.5 mln ha. There were harvested 22.9 mln tons of wheat at a crop yield of 35.1 dt/ha (in 2012 – 29 dt/ha).
During harvesting campaign of 2013 there were used 52 units of harvesting equipment including harvesters Massey Ferguson, Case, John Deere. There were used 56 units of own trucks such as MAN, DAF, SCANIA.
Now the company is preparing soil under winter crops and carrying out main tillage. The latter has already been performed on the area of above 12.5 thousand ha and cultivation – on the area of 2.5 thousand ha, surface tillage – on the area of 25 thousand ha.
NIBULON’s contractors supply mineral fertilizers for winter crops; there have been signed contracts for delivery of stock seeds of winter grain crops and rape; there have been held tenders for purchase of qualitative seed protectants.
At the end of next week there will be held a meeting with participation of managers and specialists of NIBULON’s branches in order to discuss results of the current season, determine general plans for the second half of the year, develop strategy of autumn field works. Those specialists who managed to achieve high results during harvesting of early grain crops will be awarded.

P. S. During preparation of the article NIBULON’s branches started to harvest late crops. Thus, “Snigurivs’ka” branch started to harvest sunflower. The first results give hope for high crop yield during autumn harvesting campaign!
