As of May 10, the agrarians have sown corn, sunflower, sorghum and soybean in Mykolaiv, Poltava, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi regions. As for the eastern, central and northern regions, the sowing of spring crops is almost finished.
At present, NIBULON’s branches have sown corn on the area of 13.5 thousand ha and sunflower on the area of 18 thousand ha, which is 81 % and 86 % out of the planned sowing areas respectively. The agrarians sowed sorghum and soybean on the area of up to 50 %. NIBULON plans to finish it sowing campaign this week.
“The peculiarities of this agricultural season is a very short spring with high temperature”, said Kostiantyn Khmelnytskyi, deputy general director of agricultural production. “This resulted in a high rate of works execution; the agrarians had to perform the second fertilizing of winter crops, sowing, and plant protection in a week or a week and a half. In particular, we completed the second fertilizing at the beginning of the second decade of April by 100 %. We completed fertilizing for sowing spring crops on the area of about 40 thousand ha. The plant protection means have been used for winter crops; 21 thousand ha of soil herbicides have been used to protect the cultivated crops”.
In 2018 season, NIBULON staked on production intensification – increase in mineral fertilizers volumes, spread of high-capacity wide-cut machines. As part of this task, the company renewed its agricultural machinery fleet. Due to this fact, the agrarians completed field works in the best possible terms. Despite all the freaks of nature, the pace of their performance has remained at the level of past years. At present, the company’s production branches start top-dressing of plants, preparation for fertilizing, and monitor the spring crops.
“Concerning the prospects for the production of spring crops this season, the condition of spring barley is alarming”, said Kostiantyn Khmelnytskyi. “Unusually late terms of sowing, the rapid soil and air drought worsened the crop state and reduced the hopes for high yields. The yield of late spring crops will depend on many factors and precipitation in the next few days will be the most important one”.
For information: the company plans to sow spring crops on the area about 44 thousand ha, including 17 thousand ha of corn, 21 thousand ha of sunflower, 2.5 thousand ha of sorghum, and 2 thousand ha of soybean. The agrarians sowed spring barley on the area of 700 ha in the first decade of April. 33.5 thousand ha of winter crops, including 28.6 thousand ha of wheat, 1.6 thousand ha of winter barley, and 3.3 thousand ha of rapeseed wintered and form the yield.
