NIBULON’s General Director, Hero of Ukraine Oleksiy Vadaturskyy and Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Kostiantyn Bryl were monitoring the process of fish stocking in Ternivka together with the entire community of the village.
Kostiantyn Bryl thanked NIBULON as an example of socially responsible business and the company’s head, Hero of Ukraine Oleksiy Vadaturskyy,
“I want to thank our investors for their partnership and to assure that the authorities will continue to provide comprehensive support to those who are developing Ukraine and Zaporizhzhia region”.
In turn, Oleksiy Vadaturskyy expressed his gratitude to the regional authorities, as well as to the head and deputies of Ternivka village council and Vilniansk District State Administration, the community of the village for the help and support in the implementation of the investment project.
“That was Kostiantyn Bryl´s initiative to construct our new high-capacity transshipment terminal here. I want to emphasize that the construction of the terminal would be impossible without the support of the regional state administration and all the positive changes that have recently taken place in Ukraine. Now in our country the conditions for business development are created. If we construct facilities, then the authorities have created a favorable climate in the territory. The investor will not work and will not invest in the development of the territory and social facilities where conditions are not created. Understanding this, the authorities are really working on the development of the territories and are doing everything to ensure that taxes remain on-sites. Prior to this, NIBULON had constructed its transshipment terminal in Bilenke worth about USD 20 million. There was a dump in the place of the facility. If we are talking about the new terminal in Ternivka, we plan to complete its construction by July 1, 2019. This is a complicated work. Because of peat layers, we have to form a pile field. It is also necessary to arrange an approach to the Dnipro River. But I’m sure that NIBULON’s terminal in Ternivka will start working with agrarians in the new marketing year”, stressed Oleksiy Vadaturskyy.
According to him, till now agricultural producers of Vilniansk district had to transport grain at a distance of 150 km from here through Zaporizhzhia to the company’s transshipment terminals in Bilenke and Kamianka-Dniprovska or even to Mykolaiv, Kherson or Odesa. This, of course, affected the quality of roads and the cost of grain,
“Our company is doing everything for the agrarian sector, so that grain is transported by road only at a distance of 30-40 km, and the roads are not destroyed. For local farmers, this is an additional income – UAH 200 per ton, as well as an opportunity in most cases to avoid using heavy-duty trucks”, stressed Oleksiy Vadaturskyy.
When communicating with the investor, representatives from the local community said that the village was associating its hopes for future development, employment, and the firm shoulder of the investor in solving social issues with NIBULON.
Oleksiy Vadaturskyy noted that NIBULON’s plans included the repair of certain areas of the village’s roads, as well as the construction of a bypass road to the company’s terminal which would exclude the movement of heavy-duty trucks through the village; replacement of the roof in a local school; the restoration of a local club with a gym; lighting on the streets of the village; the improvement of the village center as a place for leisure of local residents and so on. About a hundred employees of the future terminal, which will begin its work in July, will be employed precisely from among the local population. Every year, the new terminal will pay about UAH 5 million of taxes to the local budget, which until now amounted to only UAH 1.5 million, which will also contribute to solving the problems of the community. The company’s dredger will work here to clean the floor of the river even after the terminal construction. The company plans to improve the coast: to arrange alluvium and to level the soil, to strengthen the banks with chernozem, to plant grass, etc.
“If our company didn’t come to the village, and didn’t clean the river bottom, then in 3-5 years everything would be overgrown with reeds, and all the fish would disappear; it would be a threat of an environmental disaster”, explained Oleksiy Vadaturskyy.
Being a socially responsible company, NIBULON implements its own high ecological standard. As part of this standard, the company regularly takes measures to prevent the deterioration of natural resources. Fish stocking is a type of compensatory measures. The company has invested about UAH 2 million in fish stocking during the period of the investment project. As a result, in 2009-2018, the company stocked the areas where the elevators were built (the Dnipro and the Southern Buh Rivers, the Kakhovka Reservoir, the Kaniv Reservoir, and the Kremenchuk Reservoir) with almost 50 tons of grass carp, silver carp and carp.
NIBULON is almost the only company in Ukraine, which instead of the usual payment within the framework of compensatory measures, is involved in stocking the rivers with fish in order to prevent the exhaustion of natural resources.
“I think that everyone should follow NIBULON’s example. Moreover, this fish was purchased from our producer; so this is a double advantage: our business earns, and the Dnipro River gets fry of silver carp”, – said Kostiantyn Bryl.
“Here, in Zaporizhzhia region, we implemented the previous compensatory measures in the framework of the project for the construction of the new transshipment terminal in Ternivka, having stocked the Dnipro River with more than 1.7 tons of bighead carp (about UAH 100,000)”, said Iryna Ploshnyk, NIBULON’s environmental protection engineer. “The next stage of stocking will take place after the construction completion. The total amount of compensation measures will be UAH 670,000. We are convinced that the measures taken will have a positive effect on the preservation of the ecosystem of the Dnipro River, because a conscious attitude to nature is the standard of NIBULON’s work”.
NIBULON is always involved in solving urgent issues of the community, including investing in projects aimed at improving the environmental situation. In August 2018, NIBULON quickly came to rescue Zaporizhzhia region from the environmental disaster and death of tens of thousands of so-iuy mullet in the Molochnyi Estuary in the Pryazovskyi National Park (Zaporizhzhia region). The water level in the Molochnyi estuary falls catastrophically every year. The only sea gate was an artificial strait which was blocked with sand from storms and which required to be reopened. Due to its silted condition, so-iuy mullet that had entered the estuary in spring for spawning were stranded in shallow water and were dying through a lack of sea water. In order to free the fish, the dredger’s crew removed 10,000 m3 of sand. The strait that linked the Molochnyi Estuary to the Azov Sea was 680 m long and up to 2 m deep. The prime cost of operations in the Molochniy Estuary was more than UAH 400,000.
The company allocates significant financial resources for the environment protection. During 2009-2018, NIBULON spent more than UAH 270 million to protect the environment and to support the ecological budgets at all levels of government.
