NIBULON’s Investment Project is a Guarantee of Navigation Revival on the Southern Bug River

“At present the river navigation revival on the Southern Bug River is the strategic direction of work for our company. The investment project will allow to return competitiveness of our waterway and to revive water transport” (Andriy Vasylev).
The regular meeting of the working group on the implementation of the project to improve navigation conditions along the Southern Bug River, implemented by NIBULON, was held on October 9 at Mykolayiv Regional State Administration.
We would remind you that the given working group was created according to the appropriate orders by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Dmytro Demydovych.
Chairman Gennadiy Nikolenko, deputy head of Mykolayiv Regional State Administration, informed that at present the project is in the final stage of conformance with the village councils of Mykolayiv and Voznesensk districts. On completion of this work, the project and construction documents (according to the norm of current legislation) will be submitted for consideration and approval to the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine, the State Service for Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine, and Mykolayiv Regional State Administration. Further approval of the project will allow the company to start its implementation.
The project provides for removing rifts and mud accumulation along navigable pass of the Southern Bug River and creation of 22 sites to store soils in the territory of the village councils. The soils were studied by Mykolayiv branch of the State Organization “Soils Protection Institute of Ukraine”, the State Organization “O. M. Marzeev InstituteforHygiene and MedicalEcology, Academy ofMedicalSciences ofUkraine”to determine content of heavy metals, organochlorine,  pesticides, radiological pollution, and also their nutritive value. According to the reports, the soils are environmentally friendly; their storing will not cause environmental pollution. At the places of storage there will be created sedimentation areas equipped with water-drain pipes to prevent swampiness. Cleaning of the navigable pass will improve not only navigation conditions, but also environmental and sanitary conditions: channel increase will lead to reduction of bloom and stagnation. Dredging work will be accompanied by environmental monitoring which ichthyological part will be performed by the Institute of Fishery of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.  According to the monitoring, the company will implement countervailing measures to the fishery.
“Implementation of the company’s investment project”, stressed Gennadiy Nikolenko, “is of great value to revive river navigation in the territory of Mykolayiv region. Besides, this will allow the inhabitants of our region to drink more qualitative water and to increase water intake especially in the settlements adjacent to the Southern Bug River.”
According to Deputy General Director on Legal and Economic Issues Andriy Vasylev, at present the river navigation revival on the Southern Bug River is the strategic direction of work for our company. The investment project will allow to return competitiveness of our waterway and to revive water transport. All conciliation procedures required by Ukraine’s legislation are coming to an end, and the company is ready to start the project’s implementation in the region.
We would remind you that the implementation of the company’s investment project in the region means capital investment from construction of two terminals (about UAH 400 mln); creation of new workplaces (at least 180); shipbuilding development in the region due to construction of a series of vessels for the company (an amount of investment is about UAH 400  mln); increase of water transportation volumes and water transport efficiency; revival of passenger transportation; cost increase of Ukrainian products on the world market; traffic reduction (about 220 vehicles per day).
