As head of environmental protection department Alla Izmiestieva noted, one finger battery thrown into a dustbin pollutes 400 liters of water or 20 cubic meters of soil. Used batteries contain hazardous substances such as mercury, cadmium, lead, tin, nickel, zinc, etc. Influenced by atmospheric factors, the batteries are quickly destroyed at dumps, and these substances evaporate. The toxic substances get into the living organisms through the water and air, damage them, deteriorate reproductive capabilities, and provoke genetic changes and cancer.
In 2013, the company joined an important initiative to collect and recycle used batteries and storage sells, having placed special safe containers at its facilities in Mykolaiv. NIBULON continues its participation in the environmental initiative. Since 2013, NIBULON’s employees have gathered more than 120 kg (or about 4,000 pieces) of used batteries and have given them to centers.
When doing business the company is constantly guided by modern European “green” standards and technologies, allocates considerable financial resources for the environment protection, implements energy saving technologies, as well as energy- and material-minimization technologies, recycling and disposal of waste, etc. The company’s environmental culture is created and supported by the employees themselves. Thus, participation in the program became a logical continuation of the environmental initiatives and an example of responsible business.
