Vessel Launching at NIBULON’s Shipyard Creates a New Shipbuilding History in Ukraine

Today NIBULON continues implementing its multiple investment project to revive the Southern Bug as the main transport artery in Mykolayiv region. As part of the project, the company also constructs the transshipment terminal in Voznesensk district (Mykolayiv region) and dredges the Southern Bug itself. Implementing the given project, NIBULON simultaneously invests in several sectors of Ukraine’s economy, namely construction, shipbuilding, transport, and agricultural sectors.
The shipyard’s team headed by the General Director, Hero of Ukraine Oleksiy Vadaturskyy celebrated this event. The company plans to launch the second B2000 project non-self-propelled vessel till June 1.
“It is a national event”, stressed Oleksiy Vadaturskyy. “These small at first sight events develop Ukrainian navigation, in particular along the Southern Bug.  In June, this vessel will be loaded with the first batch of grain to be transported along the Southern Bug. The length of the river’s navigation pass is 138 km, and such events will enable NIBULON to transport up to 1 million tons of agricultural commodities per year, thereby removing up to 50 thousand trucks from the roads (from Voznesensk to Mykolayiv). These small events create a new history of Ukraine. Mykolayiv citizens must know about it”.
NIBULON plans to launch such vessels every month. Thus, NIBULON will have launched six B2000 project vessels by the end of the year. The vessels will operate together with the 121 project tugs. This will enable the company to transport up to 4,000 tons of grain per one cargo trip (the 121 project tug and 2 B2000 project vessels), which represents the same figure as could be carried by 100 trucks per one cargo trip.
Oleksiy Vadaturskyy thanked the workers at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard for working persistently and according to schedule,
“It is our labour victory! We set ourselves the task of launching this vessel by May 25, and we have made it. Our next goal is to launch another vessel by June 1. I thank you for your work. Our shipyard will be prosperous. We will do everything so that this modern shipyard may become the best one not only in Ukraine but also abroad. We are constructing fleet for transporting our cargoes along the Dnipro and the Southern Bug to the Black Sea”.
Olena Gumena, a painter at NIBULON shipbuilding and repair yard, was the vessel’s godmother. Olena has been working at the shipyard for three years. She has a 16-year experience in shipbuilding. “It is very pleasant to work here; everything is different here. NIBULON has created appropriate working conditions, deserved wages, and good human relations”.
“It is a great opportunity for the shipbuilders to work at such a shipyard”, says Dmytro Gorbenko, its director. “There is no alternative in Ukraine at present”.
NIBULON has developed and successfully implements a production program representing one hundred percent of the shipyard’s workload for the next years. The company plans to construct at its own shipyard pusher-tugs of modernized 121M project, multipurpose seagoing tugs of 3,500 and 5,000 hp, a self-propelled floating crane of the 901 project (similar to St. Mykolai one), non-self-propelled vessels (NBL-91, В2000 and 90М projects ) in 2016-2018.
Oleksiy Vadaturskyy also thanked the partners, in particular ship designers, representatives from ING Ukraine Bank, Oleksiy Mostovyi and Oleg Kababchan, as well as Dmytro Lippa, director at Metinvest-SMC Ltd.,
“Due to our partners, we have an opportunity to build vessels, to dredge the river and to construct new super-modern elevator complexes for the benefit of Ukraine’s future”.
This year NIBULON will process more than six tons of special ship metal of Ukrainian metallurgical companies to construct vessels. Please note that three years ago the shipyard processed 200 tons, then – 1,200 tons and last year – 3,700 tons.
“It is the thirteenth order for our shipyard”, tells Dmytro Gorbenko. “It takes the shipyard 4-5 months to construct one vessel; the shipyard can construct three or four orders at the same time. Each vessel consists of 100 thousand parts. In July, two such non-self-propelled vessels will transport agricultural commodities along the Southern Bug; this will enable the company to reduce traffic loading on highways. Consequently, NIBULON implements its program to develop water transportation, strengthening itself as the leader in this sector”.
Today NIBULON continues reconstructing the shipyard’s production capacities. The company plans to build two new super-modern workshops of shot blasting and metal cutting.  Thus, the company plans to build passenger vessels sailing along the Southern Bug and the Dnipro.
NIBULON proves that it is possible to work successfully in such difficult conditions and to achieve goals, namely to construct modern transshipment terminals and cargo vessels within several months without the governmental support as well as to dredge the Southern Bug.
Mykolayiv citizens must know that the shipbuilding industry has not disappeared; NIBULON is reviving it.
