On May 02, on the Southern BugRiver, in the water area of Korabelnyy district of Mykolayiv city, where troops of Kostyantyn Olshansky had landed in the spring of 1944, there was placed a buoy with symbolic dates “1944-2014”.
The symbolic buoy was restored by shipbuilders of the shipyard “Okean” and transported by St. Mykolai self-propelled floating crane of NIBULON.
Mykolayiv citizens know the legendary landing operation performed by the 384th separate battalion of marines on March 26, 1944 in Mykolayiv port. This operation played one of the key roles in the liberation of Mykolayiv city.
Thus, as a mark of memory and respect about heroic action of liberators, on the place of their landing there was mounted the commemorative buoy testifying that the citizens respect and remember their history and heroes.
Head of Mykolayiv Regional State Administration Mykola Romanchuk being an initiator of the action, mentioned, “We renew memory, mount the commemorative buoy in its place from which Kostyantyn Olshansky’s troops started their move. Four years ago the buoy was demolished by ice drift and stranded. All this time it was at the shipyard. I asked the shipyard’s management to restore the buoy in memory of those people who won future for us. One cannot forget this. Those who do not remember history have no future”.
